William 'Bill' Joseph Westerhaus

December 15, 1952 — March 1, 2024

Green Township

William “Bill” Joseph Westerhaus, loving husband of Terri Sue Westerhaus (Gossage) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 1, 2024.  Bill was born to Joseph George Westerhaus II and Marian “Midge” Ann Westerhaus (Klawitter) in Cincinnati on December 15, 1952.  Devoted father to his children, Luke Adams (Erica Adams), Kate Smith (Westerhaus) (Nathan Smith), Beth Combs (Westerhaus) (Grayson Combs), Julie Hargis (Westerhaus) (Brandon Hargis), and David Westerhaus (Samantha Westerhaus).  Loving Paw Paw to his eight and soon-to-be nine grandchildren, Abigail Adams, Jacob Adams, Regan Smith, Liam Smith, Penelope Combs, Scarlett Combs, Grayson Combs, and Matilda Combs.  He is survived by his older sister Nancy Baxter and preceded in death by his siblings Terrance “Terry” Westerhaus, Thomas Westerhaus, Joseph Westerhaus Jr., and Janet Hilligan.

After Bill graduated from Millersburg Military Institute in 1971, he went on to attend Xavier University, graduating in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Communications.

Bill met the love of his life, Terri, in 1985 on a blind date. It was love at first sight. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1986. Bill was an incredibly patient, kind, caring, and loving father and husband. His passion was his children and guiding them throughout their lives. In the family's early years, Bill enjoyed cooking for the kids and their friends. That came full circle as a Paw Paw. The grandkids loved sitting on the kitchen counter watching him cook.  He had a warmth that could fill a room and advice that was always perfectly timed.

Pioneer Vending was a big part of his life, and he frequently talked about his work family, whom he cared for dearly.  Bill started at Pioneer Vending in 1975 and worked alongside his father, Joseph Westerhaus II, until his sudden passing in 1989.  Bill was the first to greet everyone with a warm smile and genuine care.  His passion for Pioneer was infectious, and the care he had for each person was sincere, making time for anyone who needed a friend to talk to and offering advice when asked.  To say Bill loved Pioneer Vending would be an understatement, but the love his work family had for him was greater.

Most importantly, Bill was a man of unwavering faith in God and Jesus Christ.  His faith guided each decision and was the fuel for his passion.  He has been a member of the United Church of God, getting baptized in 1989. As a father, Bill instilled honor and integrity but also the power and passion for a relationship with God.  He guided his family and built his marriage on a strong Christian foundation, loved unconditionally, and followed the Bible to guide him throughout life.  The peace and strength he showed at the end was truly inspiring.  He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through his family and friends.
