KROTH, Thomas U., born on December 8, 1935 to Frank T. and Pauline (nee Catanzaro) Kroth. Tom passed away peacefully at 90 years old on June 18, 2026. Beloved husband of Patricia A. Kroth (Nee Caruso) for 72 years.
Tom attended St. Joseph Catholic School prior to attending Latin School. Became a true Westsider when he entered Elder High School Altoria, where he played football and was a four-year letterman. While attending Elder, Tom met Pat. Tom graduated from Elder in 1953.
After graduation he went to Xavier University where he played one year of football. Pat and Tom married shortly after.
Tom became a Cincinnati Fireman in 1959 and climbed the ladder to Lieutenant until retirement in 1989. When not fighting fires, Tom worked as a brick mason.
He played softball for the Cincinnati Fire Dept for many years and was a true Bengals and Reds fan. Tom loved to play “gin” with his buddies.
Tom donated his body to UC Medical Department of Medical Education Body Donation.
Loving father of Tommy (Margaret) Kroth, Terri (Willie) Koester, Chris (Juli) Kroth, Mark (Annie) Kroth, David (Liza) Kroth, Lori (Tom) Capannari, Patty (Greg) Hemberger and the late Julie Ann Kroth.
Devoted grandfather of Jennifer (Dave) Miros, Emily (Kevin) McAtee, Jessica (Eric) Fay, Kyle (Emily) Koester, Kristine (David) Josworth, Tevis (Jack) Keane, Kelly Kroth, Abby (Jason) Fraley, TJ (Jessica) Kroth, Adam Kroth, David John (Melody) Kroth, Rachel Kroth (Jake Meyer), Natalie Kroth (Matt Schiller), Stephanie (Jake) Metcaf, Anna (Mike) Grdina, Joey (Maryanna) Capannari, Emma Capannari, Elizabeth (Billy) O’Conner, Earl (Rawan ElAshkar) Hemberger, and 31 great grandchildren.
Dear brother of Paul (the late Pat (nee Black)) Kroth and the late Pat (Don) Reuss.
Also survived by his many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Memorial Mass at St. Martin of Tours, 3720 St. Martins Pl., on Friday, July 17, at 10:30 AM. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elder High School Development Office at 3900 Vincent Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45202 or to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital at PO Box 5202, Cincinnati, OH 45201-5202.
