CIONNI, Peggy J. (nee Engstrom), passed away on April 5, 2026, at home surrounded by her family at the age of 90. She was born on April 8, 1935, in Mill Township, OH, the daughter of the late John and Hazel (nee Donley) Engstrom.
Peggy is survived by her loving children Anthony (Cathy) Cionni, Mary Jane Cionni, Robert (Helen) Cionni, David (Diane) Cionni, and Sandra Cionni. Cherished grandmother of Joseph (Tiffany), Douglas (Karen), Christopher (Megan), Steven (Corrie), Meghann, Michael (Bree), Morgan (Melissa), and Jonah (Micah). Treasured great-grandmother of Anthony, Katie, Thomas, Adam, Hannah, Leo, Luca, Zoey, Harper, Charlie, and Helix. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Peggy is preceded in passing by her dear husband of 56 years, Joseph D. Cionni, as well as her sweet daughter Laura Jean Cionni, and her 10 siblings.
Peggy was the longest surviving of 11 children. Born in Southeastern Ohio, she lived in several small towns in and around that area for most of her childhood. She met her future husband, Joseph Cionni, in Follansbee, WV at the age of 16, and was married for 56 years before his death in 2012. She was forever engaged in all of her children’s lives, leading by example in how to raise a loving and caring family. Peggy worked tirelessly to provide the love and support her daughter Laura needed until Laura’s death in 2019. In doing so, she touched many lives through her work with Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Peggy derived tremendous joy from her family and remained enthusiastically involved in all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. They will miss their Grammy, Grammy Peg or Gigi. Peggy will be remembered so fondly for her boundless generosity of spirit, love, support, compassion and empathy. She was adventurous, full of energy, and filled all who knew her with a sense of welcome belonging. She especially loved baking and cooking and imparted kitchen wisdom to all of her family and so many of her friends. Her kitchen lore and traditions are certain to be carried on for many generations to come. Her family and all who were lucky enough to know her will miss her deeply. May her next adventure be as grand and impactful as was her life!!!
