STEGMAN, Oliver Edward "Ed", beloved husband of Sandra Stegman (nee Catucci) for 61 years. Loving father of Tina (Tracy Murnahan) Stegman, Edward "Eddie" (Tammy) Stegman and Melissa "Missy" (Dan) Hecht. Devoted grandfather of Elliot and Oliver Stegman, Kristina (Scott) Volpenhein, Jessica Stegman, Joshua, Kyra and Alyssa Hecht, and great grandfather of James and Lewis. Dear brother of Gerald (Linda) Stegman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Ed had a larger-than-life personality and never met a stranger. After retiring from General “Generous” Motors in 1996, he couldn’t sit still and continued his second career as a beloved community barber. Kids loved coming to his chair for a haircut because he’d pull out a magic trick or two before the clippers ever came out, and finish with a matching handlebar mustache and photo with the “mustache barber”. He was always trying something new, from playing the spoons to mastering “Happy Birthday” on the harmonica (which also sounded like “Unchained Melody”). His lake house was his happy place, where he loved fishing and boating, and insisted on waterskiing at least once every summer into his 80th year. If he wasn’t spending time at the lake or in the barber shop, you could find him at the casino or in his garage trying to master Craps where we think he was close to breaking the code. He was forever a kid at heart and his collection of toys included a Corvette, a Harley he rode into his 70s, a boat, an e-bike and even a unicycle he never quite conquered. But what he valued most was family time and laughter. You knew you were loved by Ed if you were constantly being teased or if you were a lucky recipient of one of his many dumpster “treasures”, wooden creations or engraved rocks. He was the epitome of cool, leaving us with endless stories, laughs and a legacy of living and loving to the absolute fullest.
Ed passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 82 years of age.
