GUETLE, Norbert J. Jr., Beloved husband of Linda Guetle (Nee Cottman) for 62 years. Loving father of Michael S. (Susan) Guetle and Karen G. (Mark) Link. Devoted grandfather of Simone, Maxwell Guetle, Lauren and Ryan Link. Dear brother of Michael Guetle, Nicholas (Mary Sue) Guetle and the late Gayle (Ronald) VanDeRyt. Also survived by his many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Passed away peacefully, at home, on January 25, 2024 at 82 years of age.
Norb’s life was one of service to all who knew him. He was married to his wife, Linda, for 62 years and the father of Michael Scott Guetle and Karen Gayle Link and grandfather to Maxwell Guetle, Simone, Lauren K and Ryan P. Link. He met Linda at Phillips Swim Club during his high school years where he was hired as the youngest lifeguard.
He retired from Pease Company (homes) after 38 years in the engineering and sales divisions. He worked with homebuilders in Chicago, Pittsburg, Wisconsin areas to provide home packages to build. Norb created 32 new patents for the company. At Pease Industries he traveled to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Central America to develop new products, and developed the rolling shutter division.
Norb was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was the first Eagle Scout at Our Lady Lourdes of Parish. Active at St. Martin Parish where he took boys camping 12 months a year and also a Neighborhood Commissioner.
He was a member of St. Antoninus Parish for 50 years. An accomplished woodworker, he personally built the altar for the new upstairs Church. He oversaw the construction of the new upstairs Church, new school addition, Chapel Relic Wall with his son-in-law, built the Greeting Room Nativity display crib, Rosary Memorial Garden, created the Building & Grounds committee plus numerous other volunteer activities. He was Athletic Club president the last year the “festival” was on Schott field and President of Parish Council. Norb did group travel for St. Antoninus with Fr. McCarthy to help generate income for the Parish with tours to Acapulco, Ireland, Italy, cruise to Alaska plus others.
He helped create the North Bend Yacht Club 14 years ago, a social/charity club that donates $1500 per month to small westside charities/food pantries. He was the Pursar for this group during those years.
Norb was a proud graduate of Elder High School (class of 1959). He began the Friends of Elder HS Travel group 14 years ago that offered 1-3 tours per year throughout the United States, Europe plus cruises. With the help of his committee members, it has generated $130,000 to help students with their tuition through an endowed scholarship. He has personally traveled to all 50 states, 52 countries and flew on the Concorde airplane.
He was always willing to help, loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those he worked to serve as their friend and mentor.
Visitation at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Rd., on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM and at St. Antoninus Church, 1500 Linneman Rd., on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Elder High School Travel, 3900 Vincent Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45205 or to St. Antoninus School Endowment, 1500 Linneman Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45238.
