Michael E Sweeney

SWEENEY, Michael E., 77, husband of 42 years to Mary C. Jaspers Sweeney, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Mercy West Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.  He was born October 28, 1946 in Springfield, OH, the son of Richard C. and Mary M. (Remmetter) Sweeney.  Survivors include three brothers and spouses, Richard J. and Ellen K. Sweeney, Gerald T. and Marie H. Sweeney, and Daniel C. and Pam Sweeney.  He was a devoted, loving and often hilarious uncle to three nephews, Nicholas Sweeney, Shane Abner and Robert P. Jaspers, and three nieces, Jennifer J. Bauer, Maria B. Carico and Megan Abner and many great nieces and nephews.  Michael received his BA in philosophy and Master Degrees in both philosophy and theology from The Athenaeum of Ohio.  After leaving Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati Michael taught at McNicholas High School in Cincinnati from 1973 to 1976.  He then served several years as assistant principal and director of religious education at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Delhi, OH.  In 1987 he accepted the position of registrar at The Athenaeum of Ohio and Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary where he remained until he retired in 2015.  Michael’s thoughtful, caring attitude and his frequently irreverent sense of humor will be sorely missed.  Visitation St. Ignatius Church on North Bend Road on Saturday from 11:00AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 33501.  Condolences and flowers may be sent at www.bjmeyer.com
