Mary Dorothy Barnhorn

Mary Dorothy Barnhorn (nee Raterman), 83, of Cincinnati, Ohio, loving wife of 58 years to John Barnhorn died peacefully July 17, 2015. Born in Price Hill November 30, 1931 she is predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Dorothy Raterman and her brothers Tom, Joe and Rev. HJ (Jerry) Raterman, S.J.
Mary grew up as a member of, and graduated from, Holy Family Parish and was a 1950 graduate of Seton High School. She graduated with a BS in nursing from Mount St Joseph College. She fondly remembered her nursing classmates and their many reunions. She was also a Montessori Educator and ran a school for years providing free education to relatives and friends. The only girl with five brothers including a twin, she was a tomboy who excelled at volleyball and softball. In her later years she was an avid swimmer and walker and enjoyed reading and old movies.
Mary's overriding focus in life was her love of God. She ended every conversation with "God bless you". She was an active member of St Teresa of Avila Parish for 48 years. A lifelong daily communicant, she loved Jesus and hoped the same for everyone she met. She was a devotee of St Therese of Lisieux's Little Way and was active in Respect Life ministry. She always thought it most ironic that her most travelled to place was Las Vegas - she had a good sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, John, her daughters Mary (Kevin) Britt of Moundsville, West Virginia, Joan (Mark) Ianni of Mesa, Arizona, Teresa (Matt) Dempsey of Cincinnati and son Cal David "John" of Cincinnati. She dearly loved her four grandchildren: Andrew Britt, MJ, Joe and Maria Ianni. Her brother John and her twin brother Dick (Joanna) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her.
Visitation will take place Saturday, July 25 at B.J. Meyer Memorial Center, 4841 Glenway Avenue, (next to St Teresa of Avila church) from 8:30AM-10:30AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Church 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Teresa of Avila Parish, 1175 Overlook Avenue 45238.
