Mary Ann Deak

DEAK, Mary Ann (Nee Voelker), beloved wife of Dr. Andrew Deak for 55 years. Loving mother of Steve (Dawn) Deak, Matt (Sarah) Deak, Maggie (Andy) Towne, Kate Deak and Philip (Ashley) Deak. Devoted grandmother of Jack and Evan Deak, Will, Ben and Sebastian Towne, and Simona St. Clair Renard. Dear sister of Leonard (Kathy) Voelker. Cherished aunt of Jeff, Becky and Beth. Mary Ann was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 29, 1946, to the late Leonard and Mildred (Brink) Voelker. 

She grew up in Price Hill, where she attended St. Theresa Elementary School and graduated from Seton High School in 1964. She graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio in 1968, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree from John Carrol University. Mary Ann married Andrew Deak on December 19, 1970, in the chapel at Mount St. Joseph. Mary Ann and Andrew made their home in Western Hills, where they raised their five children. She always went above and beyond to support and encourage her children in their education, interests, athletics and careers. As an active mother, Mary Ann volunteered in many aspects of her parish, St. Antoninus, and the school, including serving in the liturgical ministry, coaching many youth sports teams, and being known as the “Art Lady”. 

Mary Ann spent her life putting others first, demonstrating a generosity that truly knew no bounds. She was recognized for her selflessness by the College of Mount St. Joseph with the Volunteer Leadership Award in 1994. She also enjoyed art, theater, reading, gardening and cooking, which inspired and influenced much of her volunteer work. Mary Ann shared a deep bond with many close friends, including: The Mounties, Club, The Sailing Women, Strike Night group, Beechcroft neighbors past and present; she cherished the time and memories made with all of them. She had a great passion for baseball and was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds. 

Mary Ann especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren and making memories at Crooked Lake in Michigan, taking them on adventures around Cincinnati, and being their biggest sports fan. Above all, Mary Ann truly enjoyed having time with her entire family at holiday gatherings, birthdays and every important occasion. She loved sharing her cooking, laughter and the simple joy of being together and creating special moments with the people she loved. Mary Ann had a life well-lived and she will be cherished by all. Rest in Peace. 

Mary Ann passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 79 years of age. Visitation at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Rd., on SUNDAY, from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial MONDAY at St. Simon the Apostle Church, 825 Pontius Rd., at 11:00 AM.
