Marilyn Seitz was born on March 15, 1931 and was the oldest child of Charles and Anna Seitz. Growing up with 3 siblings, Bea, Dick, and Charlene, Marilyn attended Our Lady of Angels High School where she met her high school sweetheart, George Strotman, who attended Roger Bacon High School. Marilyn enjoyed life and volunteered as a candy striper at Good Samaritan Hospital. After high school she married George and had 5 children when George’s untimely death left her a widow.
Marilyn found love again and married Frank Bailey and with his 3 children moved to the west side. The Bailey family have been lifelong members of Our Lady of Visitation Church since the 1950’s. For many years the family oversaw the Turkey Shoot and were organizers of the summer festival. In addition, Marilyn volunteered at the school serving lunch, working the library, and being a Eucharistic Minister.
Marilyn raised all the children and was an incredible cook and baker. She loved crafts and was very artistic. She spent many years making ceramic pieces for friends and family. She also loved Christmas Time as this was a special time with family.
The family camped regularly, first with the “Queen City Fan’rs” and then on their own in the family motorhome. While she loved being with the family, she much preferred the air conditioned camper as opposed to the great outdoors. However, she cooked, crafted and watched her soap operas while camping.
Once most of her 10 children were raised and out of the house, she went to work at McAlpin’s in their gift wrap department. She excelled at this craft and loved talking to all the westsiders who came into McAlpin’s.
Once again her husband, Frank, met an untimely death in 1988 and she spent many years alone before marrying Dick Lloyd.
After losing her third husband, Marilyn lived alone before her health declined enough to be moved to Bayley place. Over the last decade of her life she was loved by many at Bayley Place. It certainly has been a wonderful “Home away from home.”
The family thanks everyone who cared for her so well.
Marilyn experienced heartache and death of loved ones time and time again, but never lost faith in God. She always brought a smile to everyone she met.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of Marilyn’s life these past 93 years. No matter what your relationship was with her, she certainly loved to LOVE others and be LOVED by others.
