LEONARD H. BAUER was born on May 20, 1920, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was inducted into the service on December 10, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was discharged on December 21, 1945, at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. His tour of duty started with basic training at Camp Phillips, Kansas, with Company A, 301st Infantry Regiment of the 94th Infantry Division. He participated in maneuvers in Central Tennessee and at Camp McCain, Mississippi. He left for overseas duty on August 12, 1944, from Camp Shanks, New York, aboard the Queen Elizabeth, landing at Greenock, Scotland. From South Hampton, England, he crossed the English Channel to Normandy, Utah Beach, in France. Company A and the 301st Infantry Regiment moved into the area around the port city of Lorient, France, and on to the European theater of operations. Sergeant T4 Bauer was wounded January 21, 1945, in the Battle of Orcholz, Germany. He received decorations of four Battle Stars in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardenne, Alsace, and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. From the 106th Evacuation Hospital, he was transferred to the 116th General Hospital at Nuremberg, Germany, and later to the 314th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Division for the return to the United States. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans - 94th Infantry Division Association and assisted William Geoghegan in the 1954 94th Infantry Division Association Reunion (the fifth reunion) held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon returning home on December 23, 1945, he returned to work immediately. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company on November 30, 1980, with 40 years of service. BAUER, Leonard H., 90, passed away on February 12, 2011, was the beloved husband of the late Ann Mae (Ross). Devoted father of the late Gregory and Leonard. Dear brother of the late Mary Ellen Hefele and late twin brother John, and survived by his brother Martin J. Bauer of Venice, FL. Retired after 40 years of service with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Leonard was a distinguished army veteran of World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for meritorious service. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 19, from 9:00AM to 9:30AM at B. J. Meyer Memorial, 4841 Glenway Avenue, (next to St. Teresa Church), followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Church.
