Lawrence Joseph Bondi

BONDI, Lawrence J. "Larry", beloved husband of the late Marian G. Bondi (nee Korte). Loving father of Larry Bondi, Jr. Dear brother-in-law of Frank and Betty Korte. On Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 85 years of age. Mr. Bondi graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1942 then enlisted in the Navy. He completed his officer's training at Northwestern University. He was the executive officer of the LCT 546 on the D-Day landings at Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 attacking on the 3rd wave at Easy Red Sector of Omaha Beach, transporting the troops of the famous US 1st Infantry Division. Later he was promoted to Lieutenant (junior grade) and given command of LCT 539 and sent to the Pacific where he participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Phillipines and was later sent to Saipan for the invasion of Japan. His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph New Cemetery Chapel, Pedretti and Foley Roads, Delhi Township.
