SCHOENFELD, John E. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Schoenfeld (Nee Nieporte). Loving father of Chris (Tom) Backscheider, Jeff (Jane) Schoenfeld and Jan Schoenfeld. Devoted grandfather of Kurt (Jessica), Scott Backscheider, Julie (Kirt) Siemer, Beth (Evan) Dunkel, Stephanie Schoenfeld, Kyle (Liv) Freeman, Andrew Freeman (Katie Ferrero), Abby Freeman (Joe Bischoff) and great grandfather of Everett, Henry, Quinn, Graham, Avery, Jayden, Brooklyn and Carter. Dear brother of the late Rita (Gene) Kleeman, Butch (Ursula) Schoenfeld and brother in law of the late El (Jack) Sucher. Also survived by his nieces, nephews, other family and friends. John was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, who served in the Korean War. Courageously fought in and survived the brutal battle at the Chosin Reservoir, to earn a place among the esteemed Chosin Few brotherhood. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 94 years of age. Visitation at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Rd., on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 5:00PM to 7:00Pm. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Victory Church, 810 Neeb Rd., on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in recognition of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (Korean War), Marine Corp Heritage Foundation, 1775 Semper Fidelis Way, Triangle, Virginia 22172.
