John E. Schill

SCHILL, John E., MD of Miami Township passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the age of 64. John dedicated his life to helping others. He served in the US Navy Reserve from 1972-1978. A first career as a Fireman and Paramedic of 21 years, transformed his love of medicine. Pursuing life goals, John became an Emergency Medicine Physician at the age of 44. His work with Hospital systems, Fire and EMS, Swat teams, Emergency Preparedness teams, NASA Plumbrook Station and multiple medical communities in Akron, Sandusky and Cincinnati, Ohio, allowed John to proudly serve in roles as a Medical Director, Quality Director, Clinical Assistant Professor and instructor. What his family, peers and colleagues are most proud of, was his ability to mentor and lead others, his passion for those he cared for, his thirst for knowledge, and the respect he earned from everyone he knew. This man was truly loved and appreciated and it was an honor to be his family and friend.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy Schill (nee Minnery), his 3 sons, OS1 John Schill Jr. USN, Jason (Chrissy) Boyce, David (Kristen) Boyce. He was Papa Doc to 6 grandchildren, Jacob, Charlie, Jack, Will, Sam and Emma. Dear brother of Betty Schill, Pauline (Al) Weaver, Larry (Kathy) Schill and brother-in-law of Mary Jane (Rick) Schultz and Mike (Phyllis) Minnery. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Mary Schill.
A visitation will be held at Meyer Funeral Home, 5864 Bridgetown Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45248 on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 5:00-8:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Visitation Church, 3172 South Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45248 on Friday at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Elder High School Scholarship Fund, 3900 Vincent Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45205, in honor of John, to assist with tuition for that next child who wants to pursue his dream of becoming an ER physician. www.bjmeyer.com
