John D. Pennington, 79, died peacefully at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 following at extended illness. He was born August 15, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of John Max and Geraldine (Yeats) Pennington. After graduating from Western Hills High School in 1954 he joined the United States Navy and served for 5 years as a pilot, earning the rank of Lieutenant. He earned many "letters" for his ability to hit his target and land his fighter jet safely onboard the aircraft carrier. Along with his father Max, John founded Pennington Rubber Co. in 1961. Max passed away 2 years later, but John continued to run and operate the company for 50 years until his retirement. An avid golfer John had been a member of Macketewah CC and Miami View CC, playing in many tournaments around the city and the country. He made many friends and nurtured many business relationships on the golf course. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his only sibling, his sister, Nancy Thomas and a grandson in-law, Jacob Maddux. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Carol Pennington, daughter Jody (Craig) Ballas, son Jeff (Linda) Pennington, step-daughter Kymberli (Jay) Schenck, brother-in-law Bill Thomas, niece Laura (David) Pictor, nephew Mark Thomas, his "wonderful" grandchildren Jason and Scott Ballas, Lindsay (Sean Carroll) Fryman, Kelsay Saunders, Lauren (Brandon) Heritage, Steven Dagenback, great grandchildren Edyn and Ava Maddux and grandniece, Rosalie Pictor. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Meyer Funeral Home, 5864 Bridgetown Road from 2:00-400PM with a memorial service immediately following.
