Joan Kohls

Mar 25, 1940 — Aug 13, 2026

Cincinnati

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Kohls who left us peacefully at the age of 86. A devoted wife, she was blessed with meeting the love of her life, Herbie Kohls, at age 15 when Joan first asked him to The Seton High School Dramatic Dance. Their love endured for more than 70 years, until Herbie preceded her in death in 2024. Joan was a fiercely protective, caring, and loving mother and grandmother— always putting the needs of her children and grandchildren before her own. Her love showed through words of encouragement, a small trinket, or a little cash she always seemed to have on hand to share. Joan was loving, generous, and big hearted. She will be remembered for all the joy that she brought to her family and friends.

Loving mother of Doug (Holly) Kohls, Regina (Tony Pham) Kohls and Joseph (Christin) Kohls. Devoted grandmother of Mara (Cory) Prickett, Paul H. (Leah) Kohls, Noah (Ana) Kohls, Ed (Missy) Kohls, August Kohls (Andrew Owens), Louis Pham, Cameron Kohls, Jude Kohls, and great grandmother of Lucy, Theo, Thomas, and Magnolia. Dear sister of Tony and Gary Thomas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Joan was a devout Catholic who found deep comfort in prayer, both for herself and for her loved ones. She was always quick to offer up a prayer for others, and the Memorare was her favorite.

An avid antique collector, Joan had a keen eye for hidden treasures. She remained active with her favorite hobby of "junkin’" through daily shopping trips with her dear friend Tammy (our angel) until the very end.

Rest in peace, dear Mom. We will forever miss your quick wit, big personality, and your sense of humor that lit up a room. We love you dearly, and we will forever hold your love in our hearts. You will be missed beyond measure, our only solace is knowing that you are now reunited with Dad in heaven.
