James E Petroviak

James Erwin Petroviak, son of the late Ernest S. and Lillian B. (Hoffman) Petroviak, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022, with family by his side.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Pauline Lanczak Petroviak, whom he was married to for 63 years. Survivors include his son James L. Petroviak (Kelli), daughter Lynn M. Butler (Tom), grandchildren Michael Butler (Danielle), Hunter Petroviak (Giang), Stephen Butler (Liz), Bracken Petroviak (Dave), Elizabeth Butler (Taylor), Kaes Petroviak (Baileigh), great-granddaughter Lillian Petroviak, one brother, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by grandson Phillip Peters.

Jim was born and raised in Detroit, MI, graduated from Catholic Central High School and studied engineering at the University of Detroit before joining the Marines. After serving in the Marine Corps, Jim and his family moved to Cincinnati, OH with AT&T where he worked for 30 years as a Communications Supervisor.

Hobbies included woodworking, of which he was very talented, and Goldwing motorcycles traveling through all 48 contiguous states, Canada and Nova Scotia, logging thousands and thousands of miles. Jim and Pauline enjoyed the Goldwing Chapter L Club for many years taking numerous club sponsored trips and making countless lifetime friendships.

For eight years, Jim and Pauline ran a thrift shop benefiting the St. Joseph Home, a Cincinnati based non-profit organization that provides much needed services and support for people with complex disabilities and their families. In 1988, they received the Mother of Seton Award in appreciation for their service and dedication to the Sisters of Charity in recognition of their volunteer work at St. Joseph Home.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 12, 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Interment will take place immediately following the service at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory to St. Joseph Home, 10722 Wyscarver Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45241 would be sincerely appreciated.
