James Francis Laughlin passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2022. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Molique) Laughlin, and two children: Sean Laughlin and Kelleen (Brian) Bradley. Jim was Grandpa to five grandchildren: Morgan, Blake and Keegan Laughlin, and Molly and Lincoln Bradley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Laughlin, OSF.
Jim was born on Christmas Eve, 1937 to Mary (Moran) and Frank J. Laughlin in Buffalo, New York. After moving to Cincinnati, Jim attended St. Clare Elementary and Roger Bacon High School. He remained a faithful Spartan supporter all his life. He entered the US Naval Reserve and served 7 years as a radio operator. Jim also completed courses in drafting at the Ohio Mechanics Institute (now the University of Cincinnati College of Applied Science). He continued his education with various courses at UC in creative writing and communication.
After retirement from the TRW technology company, Jim found time to pursue his many interests, most notably woodworking. He was most happy in his home shop, making cabinets and other items that are treasured by family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to browse the aisles of a hardware store!
Jim earned a ham radio operator license and kept it active throughout his life. He also enjoyed boating, swimming, baseball, and bowling.
Jim was very proud of his Irish heritage, loving nothing more than a good joke, good conversation, and music. He was a member of the Delhi Senior Singers for many years. His "Irish wit" and twinkle in his eye brought joy to so many. Jim's infectious personality and charm even helped him to beat out his own daughter for a part in the movie Lost in Yonkers when it was filmed in Cincinnati. The "Hungry Dozen" group will especially miss Jim's stories and laughter during their regular "meetings."
Jim was abundantly blessed by his strong faith, loving family and many friends.
