Dr. Harry E. Fagedes, the Whistling Optometrist, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Dee) Fagedes (Fitzburgh) for over 60 years. Loving father of Kathleen Rork (Christopher St. John), COL Kevin (Vicki) Fagedes (USA-Ret), Dr. Jennifer (Dr. John) Garrity, James Fagedes (Wendi Watson). Devoted grandfather of Rachel Fagedes, 1LT Alexis Fagedes USA, Joseph Garrity, and Samuel Garrity. Also survived by his wife's sisters – Pat Favret, Rosie Erman and Eileen Fitzburgh, his special brother in law Bill Erman, plus many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Harry and Margaret Fagedes, and his loving sister Heloise Bricker. A Cincinnati native, Harry graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1949, and excelled as a high jumper in track and field. Upon graduation from Ohio State University as a Doctor of Optometry, Harry entered the U.S. Navy serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid as a communications officer during the Korean War period. After naval service, he established his practice in downtown Cincinnati and Price Hill, and was very active in his profession serving as the President of the Ohio Optometric Association, and in community outreach for eye health. Harry also excelled in business, earned a Masters in Business Administration from Xavier University and became a founding member and Chairman of the Board for Diversified Ophthalmics Inc, and later Indiana Ophthalmics. Harry's many interests included music, boating, skiing, hiking the AT trail, rockets, and playing poker with his family and many friends. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all.
