Harry James “Jim” Amend, age 78, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. Born on January 13, 1948, Jim lived life on his own terms. Strong-willed, outspoken, and fiercely independent, he was never afraid to say exactly what he thought. Those who knew him understood that while he could be difficult at times, he was also deeply loyal, hardworking, and dedicated to the people and causes he cared about most.
Jim graduated from Elder High School in 1966, proudly served in the United States Navy, and retired as an electrician with IBEW Local 212, where he took great pride in his trade and the many years he devoted to his work. In addition to his career as an electrician, he was widely respected for his role as the lead electrical investigator for the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire. His determination, expertise, and commitment to uncovering the truth left a lasting impact on the community and his profession.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandra Jean Amend (née Seitz), and his children: Timothy (Traci) Amend, Todd (Lori) Amend, Tamara Amend, Troy (Neila) Amend, and Tina (Eric) Schoolcraft. He was a proud grandfather to Samantha (Ari) Briggs, Zachary Amend, Trae (Kathryn) Amend, Rylan Amend, Brooklyn Amend, Stella Amend, Isaac Da Cunha, and Luanna Da Cunha; and a cherished great-grandfather to Rhett and Blakely Briggs.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jeanette (Dave) Koucky, Marilyn (Jim) Holder, and Don Amend; sisters-in-law Ann Seitz and Nancy Seitz; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, colleagues, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lou Amend; sisters-in-law Sharon Amend, Vicki Amend, and Cheri Seitz; brother-in-law Phil Seitz; his parents, Lou and Louise Amend; and his grandson, Tyler Day.
Jim will be remembered as a man who left an impression wherever he went. He was intelligent, determined, opinionated, and unforgettable. Though imperfect, he loved his family in his own way, and the memories, stories, and lessons he leaves behind will remain with those who knew him for years to come.
