HEMMER, Georganne, left this world on her own terms, at home, carried to eternity by her adoring family of 30 on March 4, 2026, at the age of 86 -one year after losing her dear husband of 63 years, William Ronald Hemmer. She was born in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of the late George and Helen (née Sonderman) Knittle; she grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1961.
Georganne was always a bright light in her earthen vessel; the energy of every room she entered; and the heart and soul of a sprawling Hemmer family now stretching from New York to Texas and beyond. She is survived by her five children: Tracy (Don) Miehls, W. Andrew (Nancy Reiner) Hemmer, William G. Hemmer, Kris (Jack) Sikora, and Ann H. (Brandon) Ryan; as well as 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Georganne was a college athlete (tennis) at Evansville College, now the University of Evansville, where she was crowned May Queen her senior year. She was a teacher and unwavering friend; a devoted member of The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) based at St. Teresa of Avila Church in West Price Hill, and a proud parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in East Price Hill. She and her husband made the pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia; she traveled extensively to her summer home in North Carolina. Georganne left this world no longer burdened by physical maladies—challenges that never touched the sharpness of her mind.
She and her beloved husband, Bill, brought the Retrouvaille ministry to Greater Cincinnati in the early 1990s, an intense, faith-based weekend retreat designed to help couples in distant, struggling, and near-divorce marriages rediscover the love that first brought them together.
Devoted grandmother of Annie (Ben) Gearhart, Alex (Liza) Miehls, Megan (Josh) Kallus, W. Grant, Riley Mae and Margo Marie Hemmer, Sarah, Sophie, Lizzy and John Sikora, and Jenna Eve Ryan. Beloved great-grandmother of George, Max, Theodore, Matthew, Jonathan, Charlotte, Lily, and Henry. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
