David was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and Xavier University. Upon obtaining his degree, David was commissioned as an Ensign at Officer Training in Newport, Rhode Island in 1958. He was assigned to the USS Salamonie where he noticed that a Lodge and Shipley lathe, built by his Great-grandfather's company, was on board in the machine shop.
Upon discharge, David graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Economics and worked for the National Labor Relations Board as a Field Examiner in Indianapolis. Wanting to return to Cincinnati, he accepted a position with the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in their operation of Providence Hospital. Taking evening classes, David earned an M.B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati. Several years later, he became President of Positrol, a company associated with the machine tool industry, making him the fourth generation in his family to do so. Proudly, his legacy continues as his sons are now operating the family-owned business.
David always felt his "greatest accomplishment" was his family. Loving husband and father, mentor, friend, and teacher. His favorite place to spend time with family was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. For years, David owned a camper and traveled with the family throughout United States and Canada. He was an avid hiker, a joy instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Faithful member of Saint Antoninus Church and devoted over 16 years to the Serra club to foster Catholic vocations to the priesthood and religious life. As a volunteer with the Santa Maria Community Services, David assisted in tax preparation for families in the Westside/Price Hill area. He also was a long-term member of the Oriental Order of the Goundhogs, an association affiliated with the machining trades.
