WILLENBORG, Carole Marie (nee Merk), passed away unexpectedly at home on January 24, 2026, at the age of 56. She was born in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of the late Alvin and Mariann (nee Gindling) Merk.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Tony Willenborg. Loving mother of Alex (Carly) Willenborg, Rachel (Alec) Scheurle, Jack (Josie Pedoto) Willenborg, and Andrew Willenborg. Grandma of an expected baby and many more to come. Dear sister of Hank (Michele) Merk, Nancy (Ron) Papania, Denny (Sheila) Merk, Sharon (Randal) Dance, Gary (Robin) Merk, Doug (Missy) Merk, and the late Kevin Merk. Cherished sister in-law of Lynne Merk. Loved Aunt to 34 nieces and nephews. Treasured daughter-in-law of John Willenborg and the late Betty Willenborg. She is also survived by many more family, and friends.
Growing up in Delhi, Carole was born into a very large and happy family. Carole attended Rapid Run Middle School and Oak Hills High School where she started growing her incredibly extensive tree of friends. Always the friendly stranger, she continued to make new friends every day.
Carole was a loving wife to Tony for 30 years, where they made countless memories and loved each other unconditionally. Carole’s favorite activities always involved spending time with family including playing card games, drinking wine, weekends at the lake, taking family vacations and cooking delicious meals. She also enjoyed completing her daily crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with friends. Always a gracious host, Carole, had a knack for entertaining, hosting numerous parties, holidays and family events. Her door was always open.
Carole was always the light in the room, never without a smile or a joke. Known by many to be incredibly quick witted, she would never hesitate to crack a joke at your or her own expense. Carole was a rock for many people, always worried about everyone but herself. She would constantly check up on friends and family and help them get through any tough times.
Carole was everything anyone could ask for in a mom and more. Staying at home and raising four wonderful children, who were the pride of her life. Her main focus in life was loving and caring for her family. She could not wait to become a grandma in July, but she was taken too soon. Known by many, adored and loved by all.
Carole will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
